LADAKALNIS HILLOCK

Nature / landscape

Ladakalnis Hillock, one of the highest and most picturesque places in Aukštaitija, is often regarded as the place of worship of goddess Lada, but the legends and stories say that the name of the hill might have originated from the evil spirit of the folklore “ladoka”. Archaeological research has not yielded significant results so far. On the south-western slope, there is an alley of oaks of Lithuania’s presidents. Overlooking seven lakes, Ladakalnis is one of the ancient sites that once formed a complex of sacred sites between Linkmenas and Ukojas. Ladakalnis is an important part of the landscape and its visitors experience a sense of happiness that fills the soul with peace and joy.
